The movie is about a young South-African boy called Peekay. His life mission was to promote equality amongst the races. He does this by fighting (boxing) against a local man and teaching children English. He falls in love with a girl called Maria whose Father would flip if he found out about their relationship. She helps him teach the children and soon after their second meeting, it is interuppted by police and Maria is killed. The police have a very strong hating of Peekay as what he was doing was considered a sin.
